The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Mr. Abdourahman Mohamed Abdillahi, also known as Ciiro, began a three-day official visit to Djibouti on Wednesday, at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti. The visit marks a new milestone in the strengthening of bilateral ties and regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa.
Upon arrival at Djibouti International Airport, President Ciiro was received with full honors by Prime Minister Abdoulkader Mohamed Kamil, accompanied by senior government and military officials ; reflecting the importance both nations attach to their longstanding relationship.
The Somaliland delegation, comprising key ministers and high-ranking officials, signals a desire to deepen collaboration in strategic areas including infrastructure, telecommunications, investment, and youth empowerment.
During a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation grounded in economic development and regional stability. President Guelleh praised Somaliland’s progress in governance and growth, while President Abdillahi expressed appreciation for Djibouti’s continued support on regional and developmental fronts.
Later, President Ciiro was honored at an official reception hosted by President Guelleh at the Presidential Palace, attended by government members, National Assembly representatives, and senior officials from the Presidency and central administration.
In the afternoon, President Abdillahi visited the telecommunications hub in Haramous, where he was welcomed by Djibouti’s Minister of Telecommunications, Mr. Radwan Abdillahi Bahdon. The visit spotlighted potential synergies in the digital economy and submarine cable infrastructure, positioning both countries for greater digital integration.
Before concluding his visit on Friday, President Ciiro is scheduled to meet on Thursday evening with members of the Somaliland diaspora residing in Djibouti ; a symbolic moment that underscores the strong human and cultural bonds between the two peoples, and the vital role of diasporas in advancing regional integration and shared prosperity.
This official visit, framed by fraternity and cooperation, paves the way for expanded collaboration and confirms the growing influence of Djibouti and Somaliland as pillars of stability and development in the Horn of Africa.
